Hi all,

I'm blessed with hands like Pat Jennings, & very thick fingers. As a result I can just about make chord shapes, but with no room for error, & on some shapes have to roll fingertips into position.

Im playing a modern standard Strat. What should I look at to find a bigger fretboard? All suggestions considered (e.g. custom build, semi-acoustic, etc) as long as its guitar-shaped & not an extreme rock tool.

regards ... Phil

SGs are quite tricky to play up in the high frets if you have large fingers as its a short(ish) scale guitar and the gaps are quite small. Thats what I find anyway

fraid not, sir. the fingerboard width is the same (43mm at the nut, 57 at the top fret). it's just that the neck on a jem (most of them - 7PBK, 7DBK, 777VDY not included) is thicker. the thinner wizard neck on the RGs makes the board feel wider.

of course, the newer RGs may have narrower necks, I'm not sure. if that is the case, then I are wrong, innit.

I've got an Ibanez AS80 Artstar (semi) which is quite roomy (more so than my SG) and also a beautiful feel to it. Also, the Burns Brian May is quite comfortable, especially at the nut end
