My fellow bohemians,

Have Fender ever produced a Telecaster with forearm and tummy shaping, like on a Strat? As I grow older and portlier I find the ol' slab does get a bit sharp edged.

I think the deluxe had tummy shaping (the one with the humbucker pup at the neck).

You could take a sander to it like Jeff Beck. Or you could get a Fret King Yardbird (http://www.fret-king.com/HTML/squirfrm.htm) which has the vandalism pre-applied. I have never tried one but it looks cool.

Telecaster Deluxe (either single or twin humbucker) had a belly curve on the back but no forearm shaping. 'fraid that's the closest you get so, its either that or Weightwatchers/Rosemary Clooney/Dr Atkins.

The one with 2 humbuckers certainly did, but it doesn't sound quite like a Tele. Buy an unfinished body and a chisel...

Yes! I made a 1982 Schecter 'Stratele' which has a Tele body with all the Strat shamfering, trem and a birds eye maple Strat neck.... a beaut to play and cuddle. A real looker.

This was my early attempt at playing with PU layouts. It has the 17 degree Tele bridge PU angle (Strat is only 8 degrees and both have the PU centre at the same location). But the neck PU is in Strat position - about 3mm closer to the bridge than a Tele.

It really is a marriage made in heaven, but I don't use it. Why? It's body is made from honduras mahogony finished in faded cherry and weighs about 9lBs (19.8kg).

Depending on your taste, this looks OK? It's hollow too so it's easier on the old back! http://www.warmoth.com/thrift/wgp_body_detail.asp? itemNumber=htp5
