Has anyone tried the RI Dunlop Red Fasel Inductor For Wah Pedals? (for $15-$20) Are they any good? How are they compared to present Vox's, and Fulltone's?

I have installed several of them in various wahs and have been pleased with the sound. They are similar in sound to the Fulltone but a little tighter sounding IMO. Tubeguru

Be aware that the Fasel magic doesn't happen until the inductor is aged... read RG Keen's piece for more info. It's called 'technology of the wah' or something like that.. google it, I'm too lazy.

Poor Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton, they had to play through those BRAND NEW, NON - 'Fasel magic' Vox wahs. Such a pity.

Was I supposed to go to the Keen site 'for more information'? I'm commenting on exactly what was posted, which say's 'Be aware that the Fasel magic doesn't happen until the inductor is aged.'

You are absolutely right. But chances are pretty much any decent quality replacement will sound better than the stock one. You know who I bet would be able to make a really nice inductor if he put his mind to it would be Seymour Duncan...

Obviously I can't read either. I cannot find any hint from the article why the inductor should be aged. Or do you mean this:

'long exposure to this unidirectional bias could result in a remanent magnetization of the inductor core if the core material was not very good in the classical, linear EE sense.'

Just how long should the inductor take this unidirectional bias? 35 years?

If you take the inductor and put it on a bench supply, I'm sure that you could age it much faster. He discusses using a constant-current source to add magnetic bias to a dual-winding inductor... sounds pretty easy, no aging required. Lots of stuff to play with here, folks.
