Been fast-forwarding through most of the Dylan Tribute Concert broadcasts on the Performance channel. Worth it for Neil Young and Roger McGuinn playing Mr Tambourine Man with Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers as backing band. Oh and the finale, Knockin' on Heaven's Door with everybody on stage and at least three different keys, Mr Clapton's playing it in H flat. There's a lovely moment when the house band bass player points at a chart with an expression to the guitar player which says, 'I THINK we're here but I may have missed the turning at the last roundabout.'
Question is, who is the house band guitarist? He wears a blue suit and plays a number of teles. Rather well. Plays a nice slide solo when George Harrison is playing . The other guitarist is Steve Cropper, I know. This guy has a kind of step and wedge haircut. Don't recognise him at all. Can any of you erudite folk help me here please?
I think it's G.E. Smith, (looks a bit like Jerome Flynn?? aka Soldier Soldier, Robson and Gerome??), I'll check the video later, I'm sure they mantion him at some stage.
Dissapointingly, the C.D. only has one of Claptons songs on it ;-(
The house band bass player is................Donald 'duck' Dunn 'We're here' lads, during knocking on heavens door. They obviously got mixed up by the three chords in the song and lost their places... luckily, donald's been around for a while to put them right regards
Have I told the story about how soon after I began posting here a few years ago I got an e-mail from someone asking me if I was THE Tony Russell, lead guitarist with the legendary Buttress.
Typical of me that I should be in a band so obscure that I haven't heard of them!
