I would like some advice for the cheapest way for my to set up my bass so that I can play and listen through headphones. so recommendations on equipment would be great. Right now - I only have the bass.

There are good starter models in Hartke, Ampeg, SWR, GK, and Fender. I'd say check your local online classifieds like a crigslist.org . You can really get some good prices and try it out locally before you buy. If you want to buy new the only ones I've tried are the Fender Rumble series, I like the 25watt one, which is their cheapest, but it out performed it's 100watt brother.
