Hi, I have a video where the guy says on the G chord to use fingers 2, 3, 4 where 4 is on the string 1.

A website I saw had fingers 1, 2, and 3 where 3 was on the first string and finger 4 wasn't used at all.

Before I found the second one, I found my hands using it automatically. But, thought it was 'wrong.' It sure was easier, though.

Which is right? Thanks.

I normally mute the A string. To me it sounds better than playing that B. A lot of times I'll use pinky on the high E string and the ring finger on the low E string (both at third fret of course). You can leave those there and use fingers one and two to form a C/G chord. (1st finger on the 2nd string first fret, 2nd finger on the 4th string 2nd fret, A string still muted)

One of my favorite forms of the infamous G chord is the so called 'Texas G.' Index finger on the high E at the third fret and thumb on the low E at the third fret with the tip of the thumb muting the A. Billy Gibbons has made a gazillion dollars using it! Haw, haw haw!

I do it this way too, and for the exact same reason. I always considered it 'cheating', or 'short cutting' the proper chord fingerings, but it's convenient, and sounds better with distortion wihout that B in there. There *is* the open B string ringing, so it's not like the note's not in there at all. I don't worry so much about rules and such, I just play.

Both are right. It helps to learn all possible ways to play any cord. One way might put you hand and fingers in a place that would make going to the next cord you are playing easier.
