Are you looking to buy one or the other? Note that some of the Tokai models have an alder body, while others have mahogany bodies and maple tops. The Japanese models are supposed to be better than the Korean models. If it's a MIJ models with mahogany body and maple top I'd go with the Tokai. Otherwise I'd choose the LP Studio.

Thanks. I bought the Gibson, from Newcastle guitar show (nice flame red) though I nearly bought a Gibson SG instead!

Good choice because of resell value. Japs have no resell value.. just like the opposite for cars... No resell for american vs high resell for

Search ESP guitars on ebay. Look daily and you will see ESP guitars selling for 500 to 700 that cost 2 grand new. I have seen guitars like Lynch ESP guitars that retailed for 2 grand for 800 bucks on ebay.

You cannot find a Les Paul Standard that retailed for 2 grand for 800 bucks.

ESP is a perfect example of guitars with low resell. (generally speaking of course)

I understand your point,. Japanese Strats are good instruments. They do pretty good. Les Paul's reach a point where they dont go lower. Its like a new car, you drive it out the lot, u lose money. Same thing goes for guitars. A 3000 dollar guitar will not sell ofr 1800 dollars. By 3000, I am not saying the suggested retail. In musicanfriend site for exmple.. if they hav a les paul for 2999.99 that same guitar will not be 1800 on ebay.

On ebay that guitar that sold has no case. Which woul cost 150. so u have it at $1950. Dont forget that Gibson recently raised the price of their les paul line by 200 dollars... (this has not caught up to ebay yet, since ebay new in box guitars are still selling for 1849+) This will change with the new 2006 models.

So if we do the math based on that..

its 2799.99 or so for that guitar new and 1950 for used.. u saved about 800 bucks. You saved about 28 percent for buying someting not New In box.

28 percent hit is reasonable. However, a 50+ percent hit on a ESP, jackson, etc.. is terrible.
