I use Kent Armstrongs in my California Tele. A TCHR-1 at the bridge and a STRAT -yes, the California's scratchplate was cut for a strat rather than the usual tele neck PU. the strat PU is STV4M. I am pleased with the two but I do not play at very high volumes and mainly blues and country and fairly non-aggressive stuff! For the price, and for the excellent service given by WD Music Products, I am really happy. HTH John Kelly

Before you consider changing your pickups, consider potting them to stop squealing. It's been mentioned before that dampstart (a plastic sealant used to dampproof car ignition) can be used as a quick and easy method of sealing up your pickup windings to prevent squeal.

Yes, contact The Pickup Wizzard, who offers this service. But, it might be worth just fitting one of his Vintage Tele PUs, as the winding go directly onto the magnets as do the originals. This gives a better quality bright top end without having to turn up the treble on the amp so much. Turning up the treble on a U causes early squealing. Those Suier PUs are not very good!
Fit gooduns, and you'll have a sound as good as any Fender branded guitar... promise!

I dunno...I have a Chinese Squier Strat with prolly the cheapest pickups in the world on it. Played loadsa gigs with it and never had a problem. When it's started feeding back it's because I'm playing at a volume which would make *any* guitar feed back.
But then, I like trashy sounding guitars...
