I don't know for sure yet, but if it is dead....what do you all recommend and most importantly...why? Are the zoom products any good? I'd like to spend as little as possible right now, so I don't think I'll be getting a POD...but I'd like to hear all opinions. Mainly used for home recording...no more gigging for this old man. Thanks.

If you liked it, why not another used J-Station? Ebay roulette, from somebody with a good feedback rating?
I hear good things about the Vox unit with the tube, but it sounds like you don't want to spend that much.

I liked, but didn't love the Jstation. I would consider another if I could get it real cheap. I was just wondering what else was out there. I will also check out the vox. (I usually end up spending more than I plan anyway). Thanks.

How cheap is 'real cheap'?
You can get a used Digitech RP-200 for under $100 (a used RP-100 for under $75). I like the amp models on the Digitech pedals- *IF* you take the time to tweak them. The presets are awful. The effects are a mixed bag (some are great, some are weak).
A lot of people like the Behringer V-Amp ($99 new). I bought the X V-Amp (the footpedal version), but I don't really like it. It sounds okay, but feels flimsy. If money's REALLY tight, e-mail me and I'll see if I can work out a deal for you.

There was an amp modeller roundup (or shootout, I forget if there's a difference...stupid cowboy lingo!) in Recording Magazine a couple years ago, and they concluded that the Zoom product was the worst of the bunch. I think they liked the POD best, with the Johnson J-Station and some SansAmp pedal a close second.
I always thought the J-Station presets needed a lot of editing

Check the Vox Tonelab or if you're short on cash check the Korg AX1500G. Both quite reasonable (although don't expect the presets to blow you away).
