Hi,

Firstly my cousin and band singer picked me up a guitar, and its quite interesting.

Its an 'Encore' Les Paul copy...BUT with added bits!.

The Basic guitar is a bolt on neck guitar, the neck appears to have had the frets dressed, and the body is HEAVY!

The nice bit is that someone has fitted a pair of Gibson humbuckers, Gotoh tuners and bridge/tailpiece.

It plays and sounds great.

Interestingly, it came to me with a strip of gaffa tape over the Encore logo.....Its previous young owner obviously embarassed at the cheap guitar stigma.

Me being an old ex pro have removed the tape, and the Encore logo is proudly on display again...I rather like the idea of my sound and playing being(hopefully) at odds with the name on the end of my guitar

Anyway, Its a nice guitar...and I dont care!!

Anyone out there bothered about the name on their gear?

Any guitars you would just not be seen in public with(even if they played and sounded good!)

Not me! I've been seen in public playing an Encore. In the past I've used Eko, Guyatone, Egmond and Kay (not USA...).

Nope The cheesier the better.

On this subject, anyone know the make of guitar played by Hound Dog Taylor? All I know is it's a cheap Japanese model with 4 pickups.

Could it have been a Guyatone? No insight on my part - there's a feature on Ry Cooder in the May 'Guitarist', his Guyatone gets a lot of attention and it's a product of the right era. I hadn't seen a 4-pickup guitar before.

I know of a Sunn 'Strat' copy with one of the best neck/fret finishes ever. It's as if some employee was getting the sack on a Friday afternoon and decided to get his own back by fixing the wrong neck on a cheap body.

Could be...I love the harsh gritty sound Hound Dog got live, listen to the live album 'Beware of the Dog', you don't get that sound with an expensive guitar!

I know I'll probably get blasted for this, but I'd kill myself before being seen in public with a Fender or a Squire ...

It's a teisco four pickup guitar. I think it's a teisco spectrum.

Go to www.teiscotwangers.com for more details.
