Help What is a decent price for a second hand Epiphone Les Paul? I have found a few around the £300 region. Is that good?

Help would be greatly appreciated.

I would say that was a tad high unless they are throwing in a decent hard case or have upgraded the pickups or suchlike.

£200 - £250 and you're into decent deal territory, presuming that you like the guitar.

Here are some new prices e.g. Epi Les Paul Standard £349

Well I have found a decent Les Paul with two humbuckers and in Cherry Sunburst. Which is apparently very new so what does that sound like?

If you are talking about sound, then one thing you need to do is try it out (I don't mean to sound patronising). I have an Epi LP Standard which I can't fault except for the fact that the stock pickups aren't really that good. They are loud but not much else. One of 2003's projects is to change pick ups in the two teles and the LP.

Hope this helps,

Giles (UHJ)

Wise words, and the reason many people get ripped off the first time they buy gear. I remember buying an Alesis compressor - it was reviewed in Making Music RRP GBP170 so I phoned Sound Control and they had them in stock for GBP160. When I got there I asked if they did a discount for cash so he got out the big calculator, punched a few buttons and said GBP130. I thought this was a fair reduction but I said I'd look round some other shops and come back later.

The first shop I went to was the infamous crossbows, chibs & guitar emporium in Glasgow and they had the same compressor advertised in the window for GBP85. When I went back to Sound Control they said they would match this (no calculator necessary this time).

If you're new to buying gear it's important to realise that the 'deal' price can be significantly lower than the ticket price, so it pays to do a bit of research - check other shops, internet prices, ask in here etc.
