I've been looking round for a Tele but USA Fenders seem very expensive. Then I noticed a really nice looking Levinson Blade Tele copy. I've heard the name before, seems they are made in Switzerland! Anyone play a Blade. Or should I steer clear?

Levinson guitars are ok, but they're not made in Switzerland, that's where Gary Levinson has his base, but the guitars themselves are made in Japan. The Levinson Blade range were Strat-styled guitars which played very well but were active, so opinions are mixed on tone. Some folks like active guitars, others don't. Dunno about their Tele though, I know they brought out a cheaper range of non-active guitars a few years back.

Brand new. About the £500-£600 mark if I remember correctly. The materials used on brand new Fenders look cheap. And the guitars are suspiciously ligt in weight

.

The guitars with active controls are passive with the switch in the centre position, so they're not like the EMGs which IIRC are low impedance and need the 'active' bit to be able to function at all into a normal guitar amp (or phantom power?)
