We now have a new computer. It has one of those new DVD players and it is much faster than our old one but when the modem is connecting to the Internet it makes an awful noise through the speakers, even when listening to mp3 files. I have found the bit where one can disable the speaker in the modem properties section but his does not solve the problem. I would be eternally grateful if somebody could help me to remove this annoying feature. The modem is reported as being a HSP56 MR model. This is not very topical I know, and I am sorry about that but I do not know which other newsgroup I should be requesting help from. I shall log on later this evening to see if there are any replies.

God bless,

Have a search for AT modem commands on google. I can't remember the exact command to change the speaker settings, but there is one...

Mark

Start Menu - Settings - Control Panel Double click on Modems Highlight your modem name and click Properties Click on the Connection tab Click on the Advanced button Type in M0 (that's the number zero) into the Extra Settings box Click OK, OK then Close

That should disable your modem's speaker next time you connect

The command is M0 (that's zero not uppercase o).

With Win98: Settings/Control Panel/Modems - highlight the modem if there's more than one - Properties/Connection/Advanced & type M0 in the Extra Settings window.

Thank you Peter, and all of you who also provided the solution to my problem. The response has been amazing. I am now all the more happier for having a silent connecting modem. It was awful having all those weird noises coming though the hi fi. It really was.

Regards to you all,
