jen, how about you stick to posting the national enquirer stuff and hold off on the holier-than-thou editorials, ok babe?........

That quote was originally from Larry King Live. She did a great interview and came across really well.
It was America who armed Osama bin Laden in the 80's. Perhaps you should actually do some research into the past actions of your government before calling someone else who has 'dumb as rocks' becaus their opinion is differnet to yours.
'America' and 'America's Foreign Policy' are two different things, that clearly, you are getting mixed up into one. I love America and its people, but there have been many horrible acts of terrorism sponsored by the US. Chile has its own September 11, where the democratically elected president was overthrown in a US sponsored attack which saw Pinochet installed as dictator and started a long dark period of torture and deaths for thousands of Chileans.
The people of America, such of yourself, have not done these things. You had no control or say in them, so why get so upset when someone talks about it? It's like jumping to the defence of a murderer you don't know.
Obviously, for the sake of efficiency, these anti-humanitarian acts of greed are attributed to 'America', meaning the government, not the people. Don't take it personally.
Cheers,
Damien Spanjer Sydney, Australia
PS: Anyone care to jump in and have a go at Australia's refugee policy? You have my and most *thinking* Australians' blessing.

No. Actually this quote is from the npr interview. She talked about the press on Larry King but this is not a quote from that interview.
Have you actually *listened* to the interview Jen posted?
Sometimes it makes a difference when you want to debate what someone actually said and meant.
Just a thought.....

Perhaps you might follow your own advice. Your 'facts' regarding America and bin Laden in the '80s are sorely lacking.

The larger picture is that America has a long line of using the world for its own purposes (we're not alone but then at the moment we are the biggest).
The larger point is we Americans (who do NOT deserve Bush since half of us did NOT vote for him) are not the policy makers (we are as much a victim of our legislators as other countries are, whether with 'inland security', taxes, regulations and Enron-kissers). And the parable of defending a murderer is quite apt. We always need to be vigilant (not that there is always much we can do) that this country does not recklessly run over the faces of the rest of the world. Yes, there is *much* good about America (so no 'love it or leave it' crap), but only a fool turns a blind eye to the bad.

No, it's yr facts that are lacking. Osama received US funding/training (from the CIA) in the late '80s, that's well established enough for mainstream outlets like Time and Newsweek to report.
We did the same for Saddam when he was considered a 'friend.'
Funny how we train these people to be terrorists then get outraged when they actually behave like one!
And sadly, what goes around comes around.
But we will never learn. Actually I amend that. I don't think humanity will ever learn.
But...I'm actually not that keen on Heather either. For different reasons
