Lo all, After going through a few guitars (talking electric here), I still havent found the guitar that fulfills my needs and wants perfectly. Has anyone found their perfect guitar - i.e. the guitar that has the perfect neck, perfect pickups, perfect finish ?

Both my electric guitars dont satisfy me. Im considering starting again on my guitar search, but before i do - has anyone found a guitar that is an extension of them and makes playing a joy?

Matt

I too had a similar problem until I got the Epiphone Zakk Wylde Les Paul. Couldn't afford the real thing so I bought the upgrade EMG pickup set to go with it and installed them. Guitar plays and sounds great. Perfect!

No, I don't think you'll get that from a guitar, IMHO playing becomes a joy when it's the result of effective practising. You often hear top players rave about a particular guitar, but they sound great through any gear because 'the tone is in the fingers' and it's just a matter of getting in 'the zone'.

I went down the GAS route and finally got a PRS, but recently I've been playing a cheapo 2nd hand Tokai at jam sessions, and I've noticed that practising getting the notes out and focusing on what I'm doing gets me to the point where playing is a joy. You're asking the right question though (I should have done years ago), but I would advise against wasting time money & energy on GAS.

Which is my justification for having so many - each approaches perfection in different degrees in different areas

But you can't do Motley Crue style motorbike reving sound effects without a floyd rose so a telecaster is far from perfect...

I'll get me coat.

Seconded, Thirded and Forthed ... ** TELECASTER **

They 'cut through' like no other guitar

If you want power replace the neck pickup with something you like the sound of (not *too* powerful) and fit a 4 way switch, the front position gives the two pups in series, a bit like a well spaced humbucker.

if you cant find your perfect guitar, but know what you want, build it. it rocks! you get a guitar tailor made to your exact specification and a real sense of accomplishment at the end. plus you get to gloat at people with factory made guitars. not that i would do anything like that

Hmmm...

Amongst my guitars, that all have their own charms, I would say my Hamer Studio Custom plays, sounds, looks and is constructed to a degree that is pretty close to faultless.

Cheers
