E A D G B E

The three small gauge strings G B E even when a set of strings is Nickel is listed as Plain Steel. If I am switching from Stainless Bullets to DR Pure Blues BUT the 1st 2nd 3rd string are Plain Steel then I'm in the same boat when it comes to fret wear since it's these strings that are wearing my frets and not E A D 4th 5th 6th.

OR are the descriptions wrong OR am I silly in thinking nickel would be strong enough in and of it's self to make a string wouldn't break.

I though pure nickel meant all six strings are made of nickel or at the least are plated?

If the plain strings were made of nickel the sound would be very dull. try to pick up a nickel with a magnet. Nickel wound strings only the steel core is magnetized thus affecting the pickups magnetic field, while the wrap affects the strings vibration. Steel wound are much brighter and louder since the core and the wrap affect the magnetic field. Its fun to experiment with different string types on the same guitar, as the sound differences can be amazing.
