recommendation wanted - decent trem

Hi,

I want a good (inexpensive) used 'Strat' type guitar with a split humbucker in the bridge position, and I'd like a decent trem system.

I'm thinking of a Yamaha Pacifica 604 (or 604W, what is the difference?)

I'd like to know what you guys think of this, and any alternatives you'd recommend.

A good alternative in my opinion is a Levinson Blade California standard if you can find one. Good quality construction for the price, and you get the active tone controls, which can be switched to off, mid-range boost or bass/treble boost. The amount of boost is variable as well. The neck is very flat which some people don't like.

The Pacificas are pretty good, they do a 'posh' one with gold hardware but it rubs off in like no time at all. (Doesn't it always) But its better wood. Trems, when you're on a budget are generally a depressing experience (sorry 'bout the pun, couldn't resist it). I suppose it depends if you want a gentle 'warble', or the full knock-kneed, cross-eyed, purple faced dive bombing, whammy fest.

If you live anywhere near Newcastle upon Tyne and fancy trying out a Blade, I have a California Standard sitting in the house doing nothing.....

I have a levinson Blade Texas and was thinking of puting a Humbucker type PU in the bridge position.

I looked at the levinson site and i think you have what I want??? ( newcastle is 200 miles away tho'

I am open to sugestions on PU and doing it if anyone has been there??
