One of my mates runs a rehearsal room(s). He's tried to put reasonable quality gear in (Orange half stacks, Twins, ). However, SOME ( don't want to be age-ist, but a lot of them are young kids. There have also been a few who act like young kids !) of his customers are constantly damaging the gear. He's tried educating them. i.e. showing them how to set levels, what to plug in where, etc. but to no avail.
This month it's been a bass head set to the wrong voltage (Fried !), the bass cab blown, and three PA speakers gone. While giving gear a hard time is normal for practice rooms, this is getting expensive. He's thought of charging a deposit, but I seem to remember someone posting something about a London practice place where the gear was locked or something ? I'm not sure how it could be done, as everyone needs to adjust their volume and tone. Any ideas ?
I think you are referring to Allan Gordon Rehearsal Rooms in Walthamstow, London E17.
All the backline and PA was behind wire cage fronts. There was a gap in the metalwork where you could change the settings etc. If you wanted to adjust anything else it was tough shit. You could hire a drum kit but you hade to put down a hefty deposit.
