which are the most who sounding pickups

Which guitar pickups would most closely replicate along with the gibson sg, etc, Pete Townshend's Who sound and John Entwistle's (with his gibson thunderbird or fender p) 'Who' sound?

Given that Pete Townshend kept changing his guitar (Ricky, SG with P90s, Les Paul with 'buckers, Tele, Strat) you have to conclude that the pickups had nothing to do with it.

I´d actually reckon that hi-watt amps had a fair bit to do with his classic tone. Those could be turned up and up and still be tight and hard and bright. I think he used them all along basically....

I managed to get to play one of those Schecter Teles that PT used in the early 80's and I found that the major contributor to the PT sound was the string guages he used...if I remember it was a standard set of 11-52 Ernie Ball strings with the G string replaced with a 0.16 because it was the only string he ever bends. Stick that thru a Hiwatt and beat seven bells out of it and you are right there minus the talent

I'm not sure that he cared much about which pickups he used
