they are listed as Clean1 Clean 2 Crunch1 Crunch 2 Drive1 Drive 2 Lead 1 Lead 2

AFAIU they are not modelled on anything specific, although the titles the patches go under give some clues as to what they sound like.

Agreed, Yamaha do not claim to have modelled their DG series on anything other than a 'powerful tube amp', to quote the manual. Under 'Sound Settings' it just says to select an amp type and use the gain, master and 5 tone controls to shape the sound you want. There are no references to other makes of amp in the manual.
So the amp stands/falls on its own merits. Clever move really as folks can't say 'that sounds nothing like a Blackfaced Plexi retro Recto-King'. It stands or falls on it own merits. I think it's very versatile and ideal for people who need different tones for their set/material at the touch of a button.

Just a quick thanks to everybody who replied, I have bought a DG100 -212 an performed the upgrade and I'm very pleased with, I've not messed with the effects as I have those outboard, hut the amp tones are great.
Cheers.
