Tried out my new Fane speakers last night using my Line 6 Flextone II HD.

Marshall 1936 2x12 cabinet now containing 2 Fane Axiom AX 12 150 speakers. Replaced a pair of Celestion G12T-75 speakers.

Initial observations:

1) The Fane's certainly looked nice before they were fitted and thus hidden in the cab!

2) Sound seems a tad brighter and crisper than the Celestions. I increased the bass settings for some patches on the amp to compensate.

3) Difficult to measure the volume, but it certainly seemed louder. Wish I had the gear to have taken accurate before and after readings, but there you go. I run in stereo with a 1x12 containing a Celestion G12 B-150 on the other side of the stage. Receiving the same amount of power, the Fane loaded cabinet seemed to project the sound more.

4) Some sounds faired better than others. My JCM800 patch will need a bit more tweaking, but the Mesa Boogie patch was really crunchy and defined - best it's ever sounded.

Have to see how they sound when I have done a few more gigs in different venues with different acoustics.

Does anyone know if I can expect the sound to change at all when they have been broken in?

Cheers

Yes, I suppose that does tie in with my experience so far of the change to Fane. That may well mean that they will fair better over a wider range of sounds, particularly if I keep using them with the Line 6 gear. Look forward to trying them out again at gig volume this Saturday!

It's not that I'm hoping the sound of the Fanes will change, but I recall buying some hi fi speakers and being instructed to run them for a few days to break them in. How much of this is manufacturer and retail hope may well be open to debate. Or is it just because they are different types of speaker?

Cheers
